Environment and Risk Assessment

Environment and Risk Assessment

Protecting Land, Water and Health for Current and Future Generations.

About This Area of Consulting

At OpulenCare, we provide environmental consulting and risk assessment services that help First Nations, Inuit, Métis, rural and remote communities protect their land, water and health. From environmental assessments and health risk assessments to ongoing monitoring, we identify risks early and give communities the information they need to make informed decisions about their territories.

We work alongside communities to protect and sustainably manage land and water resources — integrating Indigenous rights, traditional knowledge and the place-based expertise of Elders and knowledge keepers into every project.

Through community exposure and health risk assessments, we examine how environmental conditions affect community members — with particular attention to children, Elders and vulnerable populations. We also help communities develop practical, community-led climate change adaptation strategies addressing flooding, permafrost changes and other climate-related risks.

Our environmental monitoring programs give communities up-to-date data on air, water and soil quality — building local capacity to detect changes early and respond before impacts become irreversible.

Environment and Risk Assessment

Our Services

Environmental Assessments

Assess potential environmental impacts and support regulatory compliance — ensuring assessments reflect local land use, cultural values and community environmental priorities.

Community Exposure and Health Risk Assessments

Identify and manage environmental health risks for communities and vulnerable populations — examining exposure pathways and translating findings into clear, actionable recommendations.

Land and Water Protection

Support protection and sustainable use of land, water and natural resources — helping communities safeguard territories from contamination, over-extraction and degradation for future generations.

Climate Change Adaptation

Build resilience to climate-related risks through practical, community-led adaptation strategies that address shifting weather patterns, permafrost changes, flooding and other climate impacts.

Traditional Land-Use Considerations

Incorporate Indigenous knowledge and traditional land use practices into environmental planning — ensuring the deep, place-based understanding of Elders and knowledge keepers is meaningfully integrated.

Environmental Monitoring

Design and implement monitoring programs that give communities reliable, up-to-date information on air, water and soil quality — building local capacity to detect and respond to changes early.

Our Approach

  • ✓
Respect for Indigenous Rights — We honour Indigenous rights, traditional knowledge and the place-based expertise of Elders and knowledge keepers — ensuring these are not an afterthought but central to how we assess, plan and recommend in every project.
  • ✓
Community-Driven — We work alongside community members, leaders and knowledge keepers to ensure assessments, monitoring programs and adaptation strategies reflect local land use, cultural values and community priorities from the very start.
  • ✓
Evidence-Based — We combine the best available environmental science and data with culturally relevant knowledge — examining exposure pathways, cumulative risks and climate impacts to produce findings that are rigorous, credible and actionable.
  • ✓
Collaborative Partnerships — We build strong working relationships with communities, governments, industry and other stakeholders — coordinating expertise and resources to deliver environmental and risk assessment work that is connected, transparent and effective.
  • ✓
Sustainable Solutions — We focus on long-term stewardship and community ownership of outcomes — building local capacity to monitor environmental conditions, detect changes early and protect land and water for future generations.

Expected Outcomes

  • Healthier land, water and ecosystems — with environmental assessments and monitoring programs that give communities reliable, up-to-date information to make informed decisions about their territories.

  • Reduced environmental and health risks — with community exposure and health risk assessments that identify hazards early and protect children, Elders and vulnerable populations from harm.

  • Stronger land and water protection — with strategies that safeguard territories from contamination, over-extraction and degradation, grounded in both scientific analysis and traditional land-use knowledge.

  • More resilient communities — with practical, community-led climate change adaptation strategies and environmental monitoring capacity that prepares communities to respond before impacts become irreversible.
